by Sandra & Ron Lightburn
When Sandra and Ron Lightburn moved to Nova Scotia in 1997 they embraced their new community - including numerous fall residents who appeared in time for the Kentville Harvest Festival. With their cornhusk straw bodies and pumpkin heads with painted faces, they were interesting, these Pumpkin People. They were also a little bit - but not too spooky!Inspired by the idea of what secret life they might lead by night, Sandra wrote this delightful poetic version of their goings-on from dark to dawn on one special night of the year. Ron's colourful illustrations reveal their celebrations, capturing all the fun - and spookiness - of their revels. With the coming of the daylight, all returns to normal and we are given a gentle reminder that the Pumpkin People will disappear with the change of season but will reappear as the seasons fulfil the promise in this fall's seeds.
This book is an oft-requested favorite from "Gwammie's" bookshelf when four-year-old Willow comes by.
